Lauri Garcia Jones, also known as Loot Achris, is a visual artist based in San Antonio, TX. She invents portraits of humanoid figures, often placing them in uncomfortable, awkward, or distressing situations. Her work delves into themes of otherness and the complex, often heavy emotions tied to feeling different.
By incorporating felt, Jones contrasts its soft, inviting texture with the grotesque and unsettling qualities of her figures. This interplay between comfort and discomfort encourages viewers to engage with the darker narratives hidden beneath a delicate surface.
Although largely self-taught for much of her life, Jones later pursued formal training at the Southwest School of Art, earning a BFA in 2018. Her work is held in both private and public collections.
